Two important retirements

Marlene Smadu retired

The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region announced the retirement of Marlene Smadu, Vice President, Quality and Transformation, effective June 17, 2016. The RQHR has benefited from Marlene’s unique and extraordinary leadership since she joined the Region July 2012 as Vice President, Quality and Transformation.

During her time with RQHR, Marlene championed and elevated the profile and our commitment to the engagement of our patients in so many facets of our work. She has also been key to building our commitment and reputation for quality of care and patient safety. Her constant reminder of our individual and collective accountability to “do no harm” and to eliminate waste and waits has embedded this commitment into our culture.

Marlene also made significant contributions to the province as well as to national and international initiatives. Her focus was the same as it was at RQHR – to advance her profession as a Registered Nurse and to promote evidence‐based improvement in health care through a commitment to quality of care and patient safety.

Please join us in thanking Marlene for her leadership to the RQHR and for her commitment to our patients and their families. Our best wishes go with Marlene in her retirement.

Dawn Calder retired

The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region has benefited from Dawn’s leadership in a number of roles since she joined the Region on November 1, 1998. Dawn applied her leadership talents as Director, Medical Administration, until September 2002 when her role expanded to Executive Director, Medical Administration/SWADD/Pharmacy/Respiratory Care/Native Counseling/Spiritual Care.

Since May 2015, Dawn has participated as a member of our Senior Leadership Team as Acting Vice President, Integrated Health Services – Clinical Support. Dawn’s contribution to the work of the Senior Leadership Team over the past year will be greatly missed.

Please join us in congratulating Dawn and wishing her well as she enters this new chapter in her life.
