Appointment, Head, Department of Surgery

I am pleased to announce that effective immediately, Dr. John Tsang will become the new Head of the Department of Surgery. We all know John, of course, from his work here as a cardiac surgeon and as Chair of the Surgical Executive. In providing this information to you, I want to acknowledge Dr. Mark Ogrady and thank him for his long term and devoted service as Head of the Department of Surgery.   We now look forward to further developments in Surgery.

 Appointment, Head, Department of Medicine

I am pleased to announce that effective immediately, the new Department Head of the Department of Medicine is Dr. Milo Fink.  We all know Milo, of course, from his work in our Region as a Physiatrist and the Director of that residency program. We know him as well from his involvement with the SMA. I am pleased that he is willing and am delighted to welcome him to this new role. In providing this information, I also wish to acknowledge and thank Dr. Ram Abdulla for his devoted and effective service as Head of the Department of Medicine. We look forward to further developments in Medicine.

Appointment, Head, Section of Respiratory Medicine

I am pleased to announce that effective November 1, 2016; the new Section Head of the Section of Respiratory Medicine is Dr. Zenon Belak. I am pleased that he is willing and am delighted to welcome him to this new role.

In providing this information, I also wish to acknowledge and thank Dr. Ram Abdulla for his devoted and effective service as Head of the Section of Respiratory Medicine.

Acting Director, Physician Retention & Compensation, Practitioner Staff Affairs

We are pleased to announce that Steve Chard has been appointed as the Acting Director, Physician Relations & Compensation in Practitioner Staff Affairs; his appointment is effective January 1 – June 30, 2017. 

Steve has been with the Region since 2005 as a registered respiratory therapist working in critical care, and across adult, pediatric and neonatal care.   He was also the founding Registrar of the Saskatchewan College of Respiratory Therapists and has done extensive work with provincial and national respiratory therapy bodies developing competency frameworks, harmonized registration pathways, and language assessment standards. Steve is a certified Lean Leader, and is a Canadian Patient Safety Officer with training in health care investigations. Steven is currently enrolled in the Master of Health Administration Program with the Johnson Shoyama School of Public Policy at the University of Regina.  Please help us in welcoming Steve to his role in Practitioner Staff Affairs.

We also wish to acknowledge for her contributions Erin Roesch in Practitioner Staff Affairs.  She has done a tremendous job during her tenure in the Department, and has contributed to a variety of physician related initiatives.  Erin will be leaving Practitioner Staff Affairs at the end of December and will be joining the Primary Health Care team as Director, Strategy, Quality and Engagement Business Unit on January 1, 2017.
