Plans for Accountable Care Unit on 3D

Following funding approval by the Ministry of Health, the region is proceeding with implementation of an Accountable Care Unit (ACU) on Unit 3D.  The Region is also consolidating its ACU implementations on 4A, Medical Surveillance Unit (MSU), and 4B, ensuring that there is consistency in implementation.

3D presents a challenge in that it will be a hybrid unit, ie: a unit with two distinct clinical services – internal medicine and family medicine.

Discussions are underway to develop a Regina Association of Hospital Doctors (RAHD) like team for the family medicine team at the Pasqua Hospital.  All the elements of an ACU will be implemented for both internal medicine and family medicine services. These include: unit-based co-leadership, geographic-based teams, unit-based metrics, and structured care processes including shift-to-shift handover by nurses and structured interdisciplinary bedside rounds.

It is anticipated that the group to provide the family medicine program at the Pasqua Hospital will be identified shortly.

Funding for the physician components, both clinical and leadership, will be provided in accordance with the Ministry funding program.
