Planned Consulting of Patients in the Emergency Department

21-Jun-2017

Over the last three years, we have experienced a 10% increase in Emergency Department visits in Regina. This has challenged nursing and physician staffing, and has also challenged the physical capacity of the space. The Emergency Department is also struggling with a large number of admitted patients further compromising the space capacity.

Family physicians are asked to consult their specialist colleagues directly, and if the decision to admit the patient is made, the specialist is asked to contact Bedline to secure the admission directly to the ward.  Should the decision be made to assess the patient in the Emergency Department then we ask the specialist to call the Emergency Department, provide orders for the patient, and advise of the time of arrival of the patient and specialist so that all services to the patient can be provided in a timely way.
