DATE: August 23, 2017
TO: All Staff and Physicians
FROM: Keith Dewar, President and Chief Executive Officer

Today (Aug. 23), Minister of Health Jim Reiter announced Scott Livingstone, CEO of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, has been named as the CEO of the new Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Scott brings vast expertise to his new role, with 10 years of experience leading two provincial health organizations, Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and the Saskatchewan Health Information Network (now eHealth Saskatchewan).

I would like to personally congratulate Scott on his appointment as the first CEO for the Saskatchewan Health Authority. This is a significant responsibility, one that will require all of our support to ensure we achieve the opportunity that this structural change presents.

Scott has a strong commitment to patient and family-centred care, puts the quality and safety of health services first and is a great collaborator. His leadership style is very much aligned with that of our Board and your Senior Leadership Team. This has served our patients well over the last few years and should ensure that the leadership change is seamless.
Scott will take on the formal role of CEO when The Provincial Health Authority Act is proclaimed and the Saskatchewan Health Authority is officially established. He will immediately begin to play a key role in helping to organize and build the new organization. Scott has indicated that his initial priorities will be working with the advisory Board on in-depth organizational planning, determining a launch date and recruiting a senior leadership team, to ensure a seamless transition on the first day of operations.

I will continue to lead the RQHR’s day-to-day operations until the Saskatchewan Health Authority launches, which is anticipated to occur later in the fall. My commitment to support Scott in leading the successful transition to a single health authority will continue, as will my commitment to supporting the efforts of each of you, the 11,000 staff and physicians and our patient and family advisors, to continue to improve the quality and safety of the services we provide to the 500,000 plus people we serve in southern Saskatchewan.

Also today (Aug. 23), Minister Reiter announced the appointment of Dr. Preston Smith, Dean of the College of Medicine, as a member of the Saskatchewan Health Authority advisory Board of Directors.

The news releases for both announcements are available at www.saskatchewan.ca/transforming-health.

Please join me in welcoming Scott and Dr. Smith to their new leadership roles in Saskatchewan’s health system.
