Leadership and Clinical Payments Funding Gap Update

28-Aug-2017

Work is underway with the Ministry of Health to bridge our funding gap through a common understanding of the issues and the development of creative solutions.

At recent Quarterly Medical Staff Meetings, I have reported that we have a funding deficit of over $11M. This represents the similar gap to the deficit of the organization and we have embarked on several strategies to bridge the gap.

The deficit is made up of gaps in funding clinical work and funding for physician leadership work.

We have developed an excellent working relationship with the Ministry of Health and we are endeavouring to bridge the gap through a common understanding of the issues and the development of common creative solutions to the funding problem. We have secured funding for ACFPs, an additional Emergency Department physician, and are expecting physician funding for ACU clinical and leadership positions.

We also plan to address funding issues for CCA activity and gaps in Laboratory physician funding. Our expectation is that this year will see a $1M reduction in the deficit.

In addition, we have brought forward the need for leadership funding to the Transition Team. We hope to complete our discussions with the Ministry this fall and trust that many of our funding issues will be addressed in the upcoming financial year.
