The process involves discussion and documentation of needs, goals and desired results for the child and family. The document is a written plan including who will do what, when and where.

Often families cannot find a suitable commercially available car seat to transport their special needs child; for example, the child is in a leg cast after surgery, the child is too big, or a commercial car seat does not provide adequate seating support.

Children’s Program has a variety of specialized car seats used by therapists for assessment, demonstration/education, trial, and loan on an urgent short-term basis. These car seats are funded by SGI Community Grant Program.

Adaptive Equipment:
Design, manufacture, and fit custom-made and commercially available equipment such as walkers, standing frames, supportive seating and toileting adaptations.

Specialized Splinting:

Bike Loan Program:
Bike riding is a common physical activity for children and can become a lifelong activity. The child can ride with their family and friends. Children’s Program has a variety of adapted bicycles that can be loaned for short periods of time. The loan program allows the opportunity for the child to develop their skills and to find the most appropriate bike for the child before a decision to purchase is made.

Funding start up for this program came from Pipeline of Dreams. There is a deposit required, a portion of which is retained for maintenance of the bike when returned.
