Women's Health Centre
The Women's Health Centre at the Regina General Hospital is an outpatient clinic that provides a variety of services to women. A staff of specially-trained health care professionals are committed to providing quality care in a safe, comfortable atmosphere.
Experienced doctors, nurses and professional counselors are available to help women explore their feelings about reproductive choices in a confidential and supportive atmosphere. The services include:
- contraceptive information
- pregnancy options, counselling and referral
- referral to community support services

About the Clinic
The Women's Health Centre is located at the Regina General Hospital. The Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Referral from your family doctor is necessary only for Colposcopy or Hysteroscopy. To book an appointment for pregnancy options counselling or abortion services call 766-4860 or 1-800-563-9923.
We are a staff of well trained nurses, doctors and social workers who are committed to providing quality care. We also have an on-site clinical development educator who provides staff, patient, as well as public education about women's health issues and our services.
The Women's Health Centre began operating in July 1992.
The original services provided were pregnancy options counselling, abortion, colposcopy and hysteroscopy. These services remain available to date. We began increasing our outpatient gynecology surgeries in 2000.
Services Provided
Gynecological procedures are done under a local anesthetic by experienced doctors. These procedures include:
- Colposcopy: a diagnostic technique used to evaluate patients with an abnormal Pap Smear or other types of problems involving the cervix, vagina or vulva
- Hysteroscopy: a diagnostic technique that views the inside of the uterus
- Therapeutic abortions, D & C
- Endometrial ablations (Novasure®) and hysteroscopic tubal sterilizations (Essure®)
Colposcopy
Colposcopy is a special exam that allows a closer look at the cervix. Colposcopy is a technique used by gynecologists to evaluate women with an abnormal Pap smear or any abnormality involving the cervix, vagina or vulva.
The Cervix
Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is a special exam that allows a closer look at the inside of the uterus. The technique is used by gynecologists to evaluate abnormal uterine bleeding or infertility, and may be used to remove an IUD.
Counselling
Pregnancy options, procedure and birth control options counselling is offered to anyone considering terminating a pregnancy.
Therapeutic Abortion
A Medical or Surgical termination may be provided depending on the number of weeks of the pregnancy. You will be given further information upon appointment booking. Self-referral only.

Pap Smear
The Pap is a simple test or smear that involves taking a sample of cells from a woman's cervix. Abnormalities detected can be treated before cancer develops.

On the day of your appointment
Please arrive 30 minutes before a counselling session. For outpatient gynecology procedures please check in at admitting 30 minutes prior to appointment time.
Please bring your SaskHealth card (and/or GMS/Blue Cross if applicable), any medications you are taking and an interpreter if you need one.
