Women's Health Centre The Women's Health Centre at the Regina General Hospital is an outpatient clinic that provides a variety of services to women. A staff of specially-trained health care professionals are committed to providing quality care in a safe, comfortable atmosphere. Experienced doctors, nurses and professional counselors are available to help women explore their feelings about reproductive choices in a confidential and supportive atmosphere. About the Clinic The Women's Health Centre is located at the Regina General Hospital. The Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Referral from your family doctor is necessary only for Colposcopy or Hysteroscopy. We are a staff of well trained nurses, doctors and social workers who are committed to providing quality care. We also have an on-site Clinical Nurse Educator who provides staff, patient, as well as public education about women's health issues and our services. The Women's Health Centre began operating in July 1992. The original services provided were pregnancy options counseling, abortion, colposcopy and hysteroscopy. These services remain available to date. We began increasing our outpatient gynecology surgeries in 2000. Gynecological procedures are done under a local anesthetic, and sometimes with medicine through an intravenous, by experienced nurses and doctors. These procedures include:
Colposcopy is a special exam that allows a closer look at the cervix. Colposcopy is a technique used by gynecologists to evaluate women with an abnormal Pap smear or any abnormality involving the cervix, vagina or vulva. Hysteroscopy is a special exam that allows a closer look at the inside of the uterus. The technique is used by gynecologists to evaluate abnormal uterine bleeding or infertility, and may be used to remove an IUD. Social Workers are on staff and available to provide options counseling for anyone considering termination of pregnancy. A Medical or Surgical termination may be provided depending on the number of weeks of the pregnancy. You will be given further information upon appointment booking. Self-referral only. Medical AbortionSurgical Abortion The Pap is a simple test or smear that involves taking a sample of cells from a woman's cervix. Abnormalities detected can be treated before cervical cancer develops. The Women's Health Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For pregnancy options counseling and abortion services no referral is necessary.
