Gastroenterology and Endoscopy

GI/Endoscopy Units

The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region’s Gastrointestinal (GI) and Endoscopy Units provide specialized Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services to all Saskatchewan residents. All tests and procedures are ordered by family physicians or specialists.

There are two sites: the GI Unit is located in the Pasqua Hospital and the Endoscopy Unit is located in the Regina General Hospital.

Both units provide extensive endoscopic services as well as several diagnostic procedures and treatment. Between the two sites there are approximately 30,000 tests, procedures and treatments done annually.

The Team

Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Operating Room Technicians, Office Assistants and Unit Support Clerks staff the units.

Gastroenterologists, Respirologists, Surgeons and Urologists use the specialized equipment in the units to provide the latest in treatments and procedures.

Services provided include:
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Cystoscopy and Urodynamics
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound
  • E.R.C.P. (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatogram)
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
  • Gastroscopy
Other Services include:
  • Hydrogen Breath Testing
  • Liver Biopsy
  • Motility Testing
  • Paracentesis
  • Pediatric 24-hour PH monitoring
  • Phlebotomy
  • Remicade Infusion
  • Urea Breath Testing

Patient Information

You will receive instructions about your procedure from your physician.

If you have diabetes and require assistance with monitoring your diet and condition, contact your physician and MEDEC (Metabolic & Diabetes Education Centre). MEDEC (link: http://www.rqhealth.ca/programs/comm_hlth_services/metabolic.shtml) can be reached at 766-4540.

Arriving at the Hospital:
When you arrive please register with the Registration/Admissions, located on Level 1 near the front entrance at both hospitals.

Come prepared to stay for two to six hours. Please have a responsible person available to take you home.
