Population and Public Health Services

Population and Public Health Services focuses on health promotion, health protection and disease prevention. Healthy choices are promoted in the areas of nutrition, tobacco, injury prevention, physical activity, sexual health and dental health. Specific programs including education and support are provided in the areas of prenatal, newborn, preschool, school age and seniors' health.

Active Living
Keeping active is one of the best things you can do for your body, mind and soul. The Active Living site provides information to assist you in answering your physical activity needs at different stages of life.

Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or are currently breastfeeding, we offer Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes and a drop-in Breastfeeding Support Centre.

Communicable Diseases
Population and Public Health Services is responsible for limiting the spread of communicable diseases in the community.

Community Development
Support for community development assists community members in health planning.

Dental Health
Dental Health Coordinators provide assessment and preventive programs to promote good oral health and reduce dental disease.

Environmental Health Program (Public Health Inspection)
Public Health Inspectors monitor food safety, water quality, public areas, investigate reports of communicable diseases and enforce smoking bylaws.

Falls Prevention
Preventing falls is important to overall health and wellness. Health promotion coordinators work with partners to reduce falls within the community.

Food Safety
Public health inspectors monitor food handling, inspect food processing facilities and grocery stores and offer course on safe food handling. For more information on how to make sure you are serving safe food click here.

Good Germs, Bad Germs
Bacteria are one of the fundamentals of life. Some are good for us, while others cause harm to human health.

Health Promotion
Health Promotion aims to promote health and prevent disease through program areas such as Active Living, Nutrition, Dental Health, Falls Prevention, Tobacco Reduction and the Seniors' Healthy Living Program.

Health Status Reports
The Health Status Reports provide information on the health of the population in the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region.

Health Talks
Population and Public Health Services provides speakers to talk to your group about health issues.

Hearing Services - Hearing Aid Plan
Audiological services are provided.

Immunization
Protect infants and children from communicable diseases through immunization. If you are traveling outside Canada protect your health by having the proper immunization.

Influenza Vaccine
Free influenza vaccine is available each fall for people who are at risk of catching influenza.

Maternal & New Parent Programs
Population and Public Health Services offer programs to support pre and post-natal health.

Nutrition Services
Public Health Nutritionists promote healthy public policy and help to create environments that contribute to the nutritional health of the early childhood, school-aged and adult populations.

Rural community nutritionists offer individual and group nutrition education, as well as community initiatives around healthy eating.

Parent Mentoring Program
This program links new parents and experienced parents to provide support, role-modeling and friendship.

Podiatry Program
Keeping your feet healthy promotes an active lifestyle.

Positive Steps
The Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region and the Dr. Paul Schwann Centre at the University of Regina developed the Positive Steps Fall Prevention and Exercise Program to introduce and lead older adults through an exercise program.
