Southey Health Action Centre: Services Provided

Blood Pressure Clinic
Blood pressure monitoring is available to community members. Blood pressure clinic is held the fourth Thursday of each month at Pioneer Lodge from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The clinic is free-of-charge and everyone is welcome to attend.

Child Health Clinics
These clinics provide a good opportunity for parents to meet with the Public Health Nurse to discuss their child's wellness and update their immunizations. Clinics are scheduled on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of every month from 9:45 am to 3:00 pm. Call the Health Action Centre Office to book an appointment.

Child Restraint Clinic
Professionals are available for demonstrations and inspections of child car seats and proper restraining of children in vehicles. To arrange a clinic, contact Brenda Fry, Emergency Medical Services at (306)766-7005 or call Rosemary Flaman, Southey Health Action Centre at 726-2239.

Foot Care Services
A registered nurse holds a Foot Care Clinic the fourth Monday of every month. Foot care includes trimming of toenails, treatment of thickened or ingrown toenails, filing of/relief of corns and calluses, care of the diabetic foot, health care counselling, and referral to a Podiatrist if needed. DVA coverage applies. Cost is $22. Contact the Health Action Centre Office to book an appointment.

Influenza Vaccination Clinics
Influenza Vaccination Clinics are held in the fall. Watch for posters.

Massage Therapy
Massage therapy not only relieves pain due to injury or muscle tension but it can also reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, increase circulation, improve range of motion, and increase endorphins which speeds healing. It can be used for treating certain conditions such as arthritis, headaches, tendonitis and sinusitis. A registered massage therapist is available every Thursday afternoon/evening and every other Wednesday of the month. Contact the Health Action Centre to book an appointment.

Registered Nurse
A registered nurse is available for child health counselling which includes immunizations, assessments, weight and height measurements, screening and education. The nurse is also available for blood pressure monitoring, health and lifestyle counselling, community development, health promotion and parenting skill development.

Resource Centre
The Southey Health Action Centre is a community resource centre for health information, health services, health promotion and education.

Volunteer Driver Program
This program is designed to aid community members, especially seniors, to be more independent. The service can be used for doctor appointments, medical test appointments, hospital visits, meetings, shopping, etc. Guidelines have been established for both the passenger and the driver. Pamphlets stating these guidelines are available through the Health Action Centre. To book a driver or for more information contact the Health Action Centre.

Wheels-to-Meals
If you are a senior who resides in Southey or area, you can enjoy a generous, nutritious home-cooked meal including dessert for $7.00. This service is available to seniors three days a week at noon (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). If you want to sign up for a meal, need someone to drive you to the lodge for the meal or have any questions regarding the service, call the Health Action Centre Office. At least 24 hours notice must be given to sign up for a meal. You are under no obligation to have three meals a week. This service is optional to you, in whatever way you would like to use it. Gift certificates are available.

Yard Maintenance Program
Contact the Health Action Centre for a list of students for hire who will do household or yard work.
