RQHR Confirms its Radiologist Numbers Remain Strong

The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region (“RQHR") today confirmed a full complement of in-hospital radiologists at its facilities.

“The effort by Radiology Associates of Regina (“RAR”) to confuse the public with respect to the number of radiologists who are privileged to work in the Region is deeply concerning,” said RQHR President and CEO Keith Dewar.

There are currently 20 radiologists with in-hospital privileges in our Region, the majority of whom also do work in the community. The equivalent of 14 full-time radiologists is required to provide comprehensive in-hospital service.

The above numbers reflect physician movement in the past 22 months, including individuals who have moved out of province, resigned or retired. This amounted to six radiologists. In that same time period, RQHR gained two new radiologists. Since January 1, no radiologist has left and the Region has not received formal notice from any radiologist indicating their intentions to leave.

“The RQHR continues to offer our radiologists the same work they have always done, at the same rate of pay, and they can remain business partners in RAR if they so wish,” Dewar said. “If these actions are guided by a desire to force us to negotiate a monopoly contract with RAR, it is unacceptable. The confusion is placing our patients at risk.”
