Funding opportunities with fast approaching application deadlines:

  • 1. Department of Medicine Research Funding

Sponsor: College of Medicine, Department of Medicine

Grant amount: $20,000 maximum per investigator/team

Description: This grant focuses on funding projects aimed at 1) the generation of pilot data which can be leveraged into long term studies, and 2) activities aimed at building collaborative teams to work toward bigger (multi centre or multidisciplinary) program goals and funding opportunities. A total budget of $100,000 will be awarded.

Eligibility: Must be a member of the Department of Medicine. Fifty percent of the funds will be reserved for early career faculty who have assumed their first independent academic position within the last five years.

  • 2.Collaborative Innovation Development (CID) Grants

Sponsor: Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF)

Grant amount: $50,000

Description: This grant provides seed money to support collaborative, interdisciplinary and innovative research activities that represent the first steps toward the pursuit of more comprehensive funding. Funding provided by SHRF is intended to foster creativity, novelty and innovation in research that has potential to benefit the health of Saskatchewan residents and will strengthen future funding applications. Funding is non-renewable. Teams must include a researcher, a clinician and a decision maker.

  • 3.College of Medicine Dean’s Summer Research Student Awards

Sponsor: College of Medicine

Student Stipend: $5,000

Description: This award is for undergraduate medical students and it allows them to obtain valuable research experience through a summer research project. It is also, however, a great opportunity for physicians to receive assistance in completing a pilot study that can strengthen an application for a larger research grant.

Eligibility: Phase A and B medical undergraduate students being supervised by College of Medicine faculty (including community and adjunct).

  • 4. 2017 College of Medicine Research Award (CoMRAD)

Sponsor: College of Medicine

Grant amount: $20,000 maximum

Description: The primary purpose of the College of Medicine Research AwarD (CoMRAD) competition is to provided funding for novel pilot and/or feasibility studies that will facilitate future applications for external funding sources. As the CoMRAD also focuses on supporting Early Career Faculty in the growth of their research programs, 40% of the funding has been earmarked for this purpose.

Eligibility: Research-active University faculty whose appointment at the College of Medicine (previous or future) is at least 3 consecutive years and will continue until the end of the granting period (at least one year after funding is awarded), or Community/Adjunct Faculty who have a current appointment letter and are eligible to conduct research on behalf of the College of Medicine.

Application Deadline: Wednesday July 19th 2017 (subject to change - date will be confirmed in September).
