Compassion in a Time of Loss
“Medically, they did everything they could,” a patient reflects. “The emergency department just didn’t seem like the place to be when experiencing this kind of loss.”
About 20 per cent of pregnancies end in miscarriage. For women experiencing pregnancy complications or loss, there are now alternatives to a busy emergency
In May of 2016, staff and physicians established the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic (EPAC). Since opening, EPAC has diverted hundreds of visits from
the emergency department, while delivering the targeted, high quality care these women need.
Patients are noticing the difference EPAC is making.
“Everyone was so compassionate. They had the time and background to understand how devastating miscarriage can be. I’m just so thankful that there’s now
a better way to receive the care we need, when we need it.”
