A Saskatchewan woman’s lifeline: the Maternal Wellness Program

30-Nov-2017

“My son was born prematurely so I was really focused on him. I didn’t even realize I had anxiety until he was six months old.” When Maria took her baby for his six-month shots, a keen-eyed nurse assessed mother and son and referred Maria to HealthLine 811’s Maternal Wellness Program.

“I will forever be thankful to one fantastic nurse for catching it,” says Maria. “The minute she started talking about the program I knew I needed it.”

The Maternal Wellness Program offers coping strategies, resources and emotional support, providing essential assistance to women at risk of or suffering from post-partum depression, anxiety, or feelings of loss following a miscarriage, stillbirth or death of a newborn.

“This program has been a lifeline. Whenever I talk with program staff, I feel reassured. I know I’m going to be okay.”
