News Releases New SCI Regina Surgical Centre Opens (June 21, 2012) ![]() Surgical Centres Inc. (SCI), a Calgary-based provider of day surgery and medical diagnostics, today held the Grand Opening of its new Regina location. “SCI is honoured to be a partner in providing the people of southern Saskatchewan with the right care in the right place at the right time,” said Fatima Fazal, Chief Operating Officer of SCI. “The company is committed to a sustainable, transparent long-term partnership with the health region. SCI has been one of Canada’s leading providers of surgical procedures for more than 24 years.” Approximately one year ago, the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region announced it had selected SCI as its vendor for the provision of some surgical services within the region. The centre is contracted by RQHR to provide pediatric dentistry, orthopedics, and otolaryngology (ears, nose, and throat) surgeries. All procedures provided through the centre are scheduled by RQHR and performed by surgeons with RQHR privileges. “We’re very pleased to have this additional capacity available to our patients in Regina Qu’Appelle, and believe it will provide substantial benefits as we work to lower wait times in the region,” said Lloyd Boutilier, Chairperson of the Regina Qu’Appelle Regional Health Authority. “Offering surgeries through stand-alone clinics, such as this one, is one of the innovative options we have incorporated into our surgical initiative plan. The additional operating room capacity allows us to provide more surgeries to more patients more quickly. We welcome SCI to Saskatchewan, and look forward to its success.” Use of third-party providers for some surgical services is one strategy endorsed by the Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative in order to provide sooner, safer and smarter care. "We welcome Surgical Centres Inc. to Saskatchewan, and are pleased that they are now providing timely and professional surgical services to residents, within our public health system," said Minister of Health Dustin Duncan. "The use of third-party providers to deliver selected outpatient surgery and specialized diagnostic imaging services is one of the innovative strategies endorsed by the Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative." Fazal emphasized the company’s long track record of health care excellence. “Over the last two decades, over 150 surgeons have provided care to over 100,000 patients at our facilities. We look forward to continuing that heritage of excellence in Saskatchewan,” she said. For more information, contact:
