Rural feedback heard loud and clear

Of the nearly 11,000 staff and practitioners in RQHR, more than 1,200 are based in rural locations. From Raymore in the north, Moosomin in the east and everywhere in between, our rural service providers deal with a unique set of circumstances that we don’t always see in the city. That small town feeling of community extends to the workplace, where everyone knows everyone and you often find yourself caring for someone’s close friend or family member as part of your everyday work.

During the public consultations surrounding transformation, feedback from rural patients, families, staff and physicians was loud and clear: any amalgamation must retain a strong connection to our rural communities.  

 Our rural primary health care networks have been instrumental in establishing this connection.  Feedback is obtained through patient experience surveys and regular face-to-face meetings and consultations.  They are also moving towards having a patient advisor on each of their teams.  Though we still have work to do, I am proud to say that our efforts in our rural networks to engage the residents in the network can serve as a model that can be applied province-wide.

Provincial Transition Team update

Feedback and engagement continue to be a focus for the Transition Team.  One of the upcoming consultations will be with Health Quality Council to discuss a framework for health performance management.  Other meetings will include HR, Finance, Communications and change leadership representatives.

Celebrating our success

Last week, I talked about our work to improve patient falls.  Echo Lodge in Fort Qu’Appelle is one facility who has seen particular success in that area, but the Twin Valleys Primary Health Care Network overall has other success to celebrate, too.  In particular, their efforts to better support our clients with chronic conditions are helping to address a need that can be felt province-wide.  Programs like Live Well with Chronic Conditions, the COPD rehab program and the recently assumed management of the Grenfell Health Clinic are all helping to better integrate Primary Health Care into that area of the province.  Congratulations to everyone involved in this work.
