Laboratory Services awarded College of American Pathologists accreditation

RQHR’s Laboratory Services at the Pasqua Hospital and Regina General Hospital has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP accreditation is considered the gold standard in laboratory accreditation worldwide. RQHR Laboratory Services is one of the few laboratories in Western Canada with CAP Accreditation.

A year ago, the Laboratory Services and Point of Care Testing (POCT) sites were inspected, resulting in the status of accreditation on probation. The collaborative efforts of all employees performing patient testing, including POCT has ensured the success of meeting the accreditation requirements.

During the CAP accreditation process, a team of eight inspectors with knowledge in the various disciplines of laboratory medicine examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and records, and overall management of the laboratory.

We wish to thank the Point of Care testing personnel for their efforts to implement the CAP accreditation requirements, and on-going audits to ensure the progress made is maintained.

The CAP Accreditation Program is designed to assist laboratories in achieving the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.

Dr. Ted Alport, Medical Head of Laboratory Services, thanks to staff for their continuous effort and preparation to achieve the standard of practice recognized by the CAP.
