Volunteering Frequently Asked Questions

Home / People and Safety / Volunteer Services / Volunteering Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I am thinking about volunteering. What should I consider?

First, assess if you have time available to commit to volunteering. Think about your interests, skills and/or career plans - this will help you decide where you might volunteer. Also, consider if you like to work independently or as part of a team.

  2. Is there a time commitment?

We want to meet your needs by accommodating your busy schedule; however, we would ask that you commit to volunteering for a meaningful period of time (the length of time will vary depending on the volunteer role you choose). Most volunteers find they enjoy volunteering with the RQHR and choose to stay longer than the required time commitment!

  3. What is the process to volunteer?

Click here for information on the process to volunteer.

  4. I'm 13. Can I volunteer in the Department of Volunteer Services

The minimum age to volunteer is fourteen (14) yeasrs of old. You will be assigned to the Wascana Rehab Centre to assist the Recreation Department with weekend and evening programming. There are Family Volunteer opportunities within Wascana Rehab Centre which may accommodate those under the age of 13. Please contact Volunteer Services to discuss.

  5. I am student visa. Can I volunteer?

    Yes, you can.

  6. Is there opportunity to move from one volunteer position to another?

Yes, we encourage you to seek new challenges and opportunities once your current commitment is satisfied. Depending upon your time availability, you may wish to offer your services in more than one role. Volunteer positions are available at three facilities. Once registered within the Department of Volunteer Services, you can move from one position to another or from one facility to another.

  7. How long will the process to become a registered volunteer take?

Approximately 2-4 weeks. Our goal is to contact you within 1 week after receiving your online application form and 48 hours after receiving all other required information from the applicant (Criminal Record Check and reference forms).

The process does require the submission of forms by the applicant.  The time it takes an applicant to submit forms can either lengthen or shorten the time it takes to complete this process. This time is factored into our process time.

For more information on the process for becoming a registered RQHR Volunteer please email us at volunteerRQHR@rqhealth.ca or call 306 766 4713.
