The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) Research and Performance Support is guided by an overarching philosophy and identified goals.
Philosophy
The members of Research and Health Information Services believe that:
- Research, through the process of scientific inquiry, is integral to excellence in the provision of health care
- The clinician/researcher and research scientist models of scientific inquiry are important to the advancement of knowledge and understanding in health care
- All scientific methodologies (e.g. surveys, controlled experimentation) and all avenues of investigation (e.g. physical, psychological, social) have the potential to yield valuable information about health and health-related processes
- The SHA should aspire to become, and promote itself as a leader in health care research and development
- It is the responsibility of researchers to disseminate, via presentation and publication, information gained through research
Goals
Research and Health Information Services has several standing goals. These are:
- Supporting the philosophy, mission, values, and objectives of the Saskatchewan Health Authority
- Assisting in establishing and promoting a reputation for the Saskatchewan Health Authority and its researchers as leaders in health care research and development
- Promoting and actively conducting health care research and development within the Saskatchewan Health Authority
- Providing research support services and consultation to staff of the Saskatchewan Health Authority
- Providing educational and training opportunities to aspiring health researchers
- Creating productive research relationships with community health researchers and research agencies
- Assisting in the integration of significant research findings into clinical practice
