Speech-Language Pathologists work with individuals of all ages, who need help with communication or swallowing

Patients may need help because of an illness or accident, a developmental problem, or the aging process.

Speech-Language Pathologists Within the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region:

  • work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a care group providing services to individuals within that care group or;
  • work on a referral basis for specific communication or swallowing concerns.

Specific information about our different services is provided below.

Acute Care

Speech-Language Pathologists are based at the Regina General Hospital and Pasqua Hospital. They provide assessment and treatment services for clients aged 14 and older with communication and swallowing difficulties.

Adult Services - Wascana Rehabilitation Centre

  • Inpatient Services:
    • Speech Language Pathologists at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre provide testing and treatment services to adults with neurological disorders in a multi-disciplinary setting. These services may involve communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Outpatient Services:
    • Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Speech Language Pathologists provide adult outpatient testing and treatment services to Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region clients with speech, language, voice, cognitive and swallowing concerns.
  • Long Term Care:
    • Speech Language Pathologists at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre provide specialized services for people with swallowing disorders.

Pediatric Services

Speech-Language Pathologists working with the pediatric population help to develop communication skills and assist with listening and understanding, vocabulary development, language and speech sounds.

In the rural portion of the region, pediatric speech-language pathology services are generally provided through Population and Public Health Services.

For the urban population, general pediatric out-patient services are provided through Child and Youth Services and Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Children's Program. There is also a Speech-Language Pathologist on-site at Four Directions Community Health Centre.
